Daisies - Age 5-6 years, Kindergarten - Grade 1
Brownies - Age 6-9 years, Grades 1-3
Juniors - Age 8-12 years, Grades 3-6
Cadettes - Age 11-15 years, Grades 6-9
Seniors - Age 14-18 years, Grades 9-12
Please note that the age groupings overlap somewhat. In our Girl Scout program here in Kuwait, we currently follow this guideline: Grade 1 is Brownies, Grade 3 is also Brownies, Grade 6 is Juniors, and Grade 9 is Cadettes. The age grouping is flexible and we try to take into account the school and the girl's maturity when making age group assignments.
We serve American girls living in Kuwait and their classmates attending American or International schools.
USA Girl Scouts Overseas in Kuwait was chartered by Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. We have a constitution and by-laws which govern the operation of our organization and a volunteer policy.
Girls in the troops are principally from private schools, principally The American School of Kuwait, with some girls who are homeschooled and others who are from the American International School, Al-Bayan Bilingual School, American Creativity Academy and a few others. There are currently 1 Daisy Troop, 3 Brownie Troops, 3 Junior Troops, and 1 Cadette/Senior Troop (relatively large - 18 girls this year!).
Most of the troops meet every other week. In the past, girls have participated in the same sorts of traditional Girl Scout activities that their counterparts in the U.S. enjoy: earning Try-Its, Badges, and Interest Patches; Lock-ins and campouts for multiple troops to work on projects in a group setting; doing service projects; celebrating Thinking Day; camping; Father-Daughter and Mother-Daughter events, a Year End Gathering and bridging ceremony; etc.
Some of the different activities planned for the 2002-2003 school year included: Leader training of various types; Program Aide training for girls; Calendar Sales; More age level workshops and sleepovers such as Brownie Lock-Ins, Junior Badge Workshops, and Cadette-Senior Sleepovers; various service projects benefiting US Military personnel stationed in Kuwait; American Red Cross Training First Aid and CPR training for adults and older girls; Songfest; Registration - Girl Scout Tea; Father-Daughter Bowling; Mother-Daughter Day Tea; Thinking Day Postcard Exchange and an International Fair with the Kuwait Girl Guides and British Girl Guides; Spring Campoout; Year End Bridging and Gathering; Lone Troop Committee Association Meeting; and an Adult Appreciation BBQ at the beach.
